Brief from client
Need a flatten and current look software icon. The software is an industrial programming tool for system integrator.
Client couldn't accept version 4. So have to put back the circle.
Is the stencil on text OK? Thank you very much for your valuable comments.

Here's what I think you should do: let go of the symbol all together. Focus on that X in the word mark and find a better, less bland font.
Simplicity is the key word here. Not to be confused with simplistic.
Keep at it!
Thanks Shawali for your continuous guidance, but the problem is the client only needs the symbol to use as software icon more than the word mark. So I could let go the whole word mark but not the symbol.
Keep the word mark with that tricked out X in it. Nothing prevents you from only using the X when you just need the symbol.
What I mean is that you don't need both the X and the symbol. It's just redundant.
