Brief from client
A logo for a natural food company called Spotted Owl specializing in popsicles made with organic locally sourced ingredients.
Thank you all again for the useful input and support.
I think resizing the symbol vs wordmark was spot on. Here's the latest iteration.

Way better.
Now try the owl without the strokes.
You're definitely on the right track.
I like it, it already has a professional feel to it, but try it without the strokes and maybe simplify the owl a little bit more? Can you combine the shape of a popsicle a bit more with the owl maybe? If you want to make it clear with the logo that you sell popsicles, it's not super effective, I think.
Is the shape/dimension easy to handle in documents and such?
I'm working on cleaning up the symbol, I'll post some progress images soon.
I like where this is heading and - yes - I have tried to think of how to better represent that this is actually a natural food company focusing on popsicles. You don't get that at all from the logo as it is. I've tried adding a tagline, "All natural treats" or something, but it doesn't really work.
But, then again, Apple doesn't exactly scream computer company ;)
Everyone here has been super helpful and I'm getting really excited to present this to the CEO!
Well, Apple's got a ton of brand recognition on their side. But you're correct, a company's name doesn't necessary need to represent the company itself, as long as you have proper branding techniques and a strong logo.
