Brief from client
Version 1 is the logo of my current employer. Created back in 1990. The company is a small commercial printing company. We would love to get some feed back on it.
Please critique it meaningfully. Believe me when I say that I know it needs to be redone. And after many failed attempts I am looking for some outside advice.
If this logo itself has had many failed attempts then I would approach it completely from scratch. I would look at other logos that reflect the printing industry. Take notes of colors, symbols and styles. After absorbing everything I would set down sketch out a ton of thumb nails and see what I get. You might find yourself mixing and matching different ideas
I would not try and salvage anything from the 90's logo. It worked then, but now all of the elements can be created in Photoshop in a few minutes. Less is more. Going forward, you might approach it from the standpoint of clean, simple and professional and above all readability.
Have you considered using squares or rounded rectangles? If not, then imagine them with the CYMK scheme. Classic combination; very practical in your case with pre-press.

I like everything except the text, its to embossy for me. Other than that I like it
Your employer needs a new logo. This logo looks unprofessional in every aspect.
This does not work for so many reasons it would be a pain to list them all.
I think it would be best to start fresh with a new creative concept.

Too flashy and there is no good idea. Sorry, I don't like it at all. :(

if you make it more simple could work...
