Riptide

Brief from client
I really don't have much of a brief from the client other than this being for a seafood company. They sent me basic text with a photo of a shrimp curled around it. The client did mention the "tentacles" a few times so i worked out some ideas to incorporate them into the logo. I'm still playing with fonts and colors. I'll post some versions and sketches below as well. Let me know what you all think. I'm sending the first batch of logos to the client today.

These are some of the ideas with different fonts.
Some of the sketch ideas. I still want to play with some of these.
The shrimp is well drawn and detailed, yet not too complex. I definitely think that the fluid, curved fonts work better than the block-style fonts, given the liquid nature of the business. I'd like to see one with the shrimp turned the other way as seen on the lower right. with the antenna drifting off to the left. When I think of the word "riptide" I think of a forceful current pulling on things. That shrimp on the lower right looks like he's being pulled along with a current stronger than himself.
Really good work here... I like that you show the development of the idea with your sketches. New kids take note: this is how it's done.
Thanks for the feedback! My next stage of versions will be with the alternate shrimp so I'll get those up once I have something working with that. I also agree with what you pointed out about the current and flow. That's the reason I've been sticking with italicized fonts. I wanted that implied motion.
It is nice to see how the sketches evolved.
I think the font should be softer, not like you had it with sharp edges.
I like where the tentacles extend to the type.
I do not know how it actually look like but I feel as of the tentacles are something that is coming from the shrimp's mouth.
I like your work, would love to see how will this develop to personally learn from it.
Thanks. I like showing to progression. I think it gives more to critique from since you can see where everything originates.
I did a google image search so I could study the anatomy a bit. I toned down some of the details and started sketching. It's kind of a cool animal to work with like this. I haven't been able to really enjoy a logo development in a while so I'm liking this project. :-)
Good job!
Good work! but i like down left script. Is this the font or lettering?
Right now I'm working with fonts, some slightly modified. I may end up doing some lettering.
I dig this one. Good use of Brothers. The word mark and the symbol work pretty well together.
You might wanna slightly tweak the kerning.
Good job, bro.
Hey Jon! I really appreciate your job! Your shrimp symbol is great for a logo! The font is ok... You should continue working in a font that fits the business.
Top left font (in first post) looks so solid with the shrimp symbol.
I love the colors in this main sample you posted.
I honestly just really like the idea... but think it would look better with the softer/more flow'y font involved.
Sollllid draft here man. I like it a lot.
I really like this! The dots on the "i"'s remind me of stop signs. I would alter those. The whole font has a stop sign kind of quality. I would either find a new font or keep altering small things in this one. Otherwise its a winner, I love the colors and the lobster.
