Brief from client
The client makes holsters for handguns and sheaths for knives out of kydex material. Wants a simple military or and outdoors feel to the logo.
Two things thought : first, I wouldn't use Lobster, even as a subtext. It's one of these cool free font which are seen everywhere and are kind of an eye sore now.
Second thing, I would take the scratchy aspect down a few notch. Here's a tip to apply a cool texture on a logo but in a more subtle way. Find on google image a concrete, paper, iron or whatever texture and open it in photoshop. Convert it to grayscale and intensify the contrast, with the brightess shades being prominent. Now import it in Illustrator. Group all the elements of your logo and open the transparency tab. You will see two squares in it, with your logo in the left one and nothing on the right one. Double click on the latter and copy paste the texture there. And see what happens, you'll surely like it =) Double click on the left square to get out of the mask.
Thanks Shawali. I took your advice and will be uploading another version. Let me know what you think. I picked a rocky looking texture. Easy to change. I'm very happy with this one and so is the customer.
You taught me something on that one. I was either using screen to get the lighter marks from my textures or tracing them into vectors, which gets reeeeeeeal processor intensive. This method is way more efficient. Thanks.
