Brief from client
I am a freelance graphic designer & want to re-brand myself (original logo that I used for 3 years is very girly). I liked the idea of CMYK, but know that it's really overused. Because 2 of my initials are C & M I thought I may be able to get away with it. What do you think?

use the magenta color in the M makes it look even more feminine, maybe if you try to use that color in another letter and use a more "masculine" typography, or thicker ...
This has a decent concept and good color usage. I disagree with maneck about the color of the "M"; it doesn't look very feminine, and certainly not enough to overpower the other colors. Using a different color defeats the purpose of color coding the letters in relation to CMYK, and would make the logo look much duller. The font choices are good as is, simple and very clean, which is best for a designer. What I'd change is the size and location of the word "Designs" to make is more readable. Try moving it below "SMC" and increasing its dimensions (without overlapping "SMC"). Experiment to see whether you'd like its width to match or surpass the width of "SMC".
Overall this is a decent design.
